Coaching Drills and Training Session Activities
Part 2
Coach
Education Documents (ALL -
ZIP FILE)
Below are 10 documents that I hope you find useful in your
role as coach. These documents have been prepared over
the past few
years for a variety of coaching and development activities. A
few of the documents were originally written for U9's or
may refer
to "for Mini's" but they will still be useful for youth
players. You may like to increase the intensity or complexity
of the activities for older age groups but the technical concepts
apply for all age groups. I hope this information is of value
to
you. Below is a brief explanation of each document.
Tactical Principles
Awareness
Outlines the basic tactical questions players should be continually
asking themselves and highlights the technical skill set players
should have to allow them to answer those questions.
Coaching
Tips for Rooball Coaches
Highlights the key technical elements to focus on when coaching
kids certain skills.
Coaching Drill
Ideas for U9's
Relates to the above document. Some ideas for drills and activities
to do in a training session based around some of the key technical
skill set.
Basic
Training Program Session Format
Suggestions for training sessions. Depending on the age group you
are coaching you may have to vary the length or intensity of the
sessions.
Special
Training Program for U9's
Written a few years ago when we conducted skills sessions specifically
for the U9 age group. Provides suggestions for training sessions
which could be modified for other age groups.
Agility
and Running Exercises for Mini's, and Fast Feet Exercises for Mini's
While these documents were prepared for U7 - U9 age groups, the
activities can easily be modified to suit any age group. Agility
and fast feet are essential skills for footballers and the younger
we can teach these skills the better - I have u15's who cannot
run fluently over hurdles or through speed ladders.
Ball Skill Training
Exercises
Lists of ideas for training session activities focussing on working
with a ball as much as possible, concentrating on dribbling and
passing skills.
Individual
Home Practice Exercises
Lists of drills and activities that players can do at home by themselves
outside of formal training sessions. If players are keen to improve
their skills they need to work outside the 1 or 2 training sessions
you provide. Players need to understand that repitition, repitition,
repitition of the basic skills will lead to improvement.
Chris
Tanzey Coach The Coaches Session
Notes from the session conducted by Chris at the beginning of April
2007. Previously distributed, so most of you have probably already
received this document recently.
